Sisters

I have often wondered what bonds sisters together. It is only biological? Or is it something else. Does everyone have it? Or is it something you have to work on?

I was 23 years old when we lost our mother and it's been hard not having her around, especially when times are difficult. We still have eachother even though we are far apart! I am so thankful for text messaging and facebook (something I've just started using) to keep us up to date on our daily happenings.

The day after Thanksgiving I found out that I have several brain tumors. My oldest sister Jen (on the left) flew in from Ohio and my younger sister Julie (in the middle)drove from St. George to spend a week with me before my first surgery. Huge sacrifices were made by both of them (and their husbands and children) to be with me. It was so comforting to have them close during such an uncertain time. Looking back, I am so grateful.

It's been three weeks since my first surgery. I've been through a lot and experienced many miracles and praying for a few more. One of the most important thing I've learned through this experience is to enjoy those whom you love now. Take time for the most important things in life and be happy.

We had a sisters retreat this week and have been busy crafting. I love getting together with my sisters because, ..........well they are my sisters, and because my sisters are so so creative it hurts! They get my creative juices flowing! I know, I'm spoiled! What a great Christmas gift.

A WALK THROUGH THE PARK

I've been busy the last few months......mostly with family but I did squeaze a little me time into the mix and this is what I've come up with. My walk through the park........

I personally use the large one everyday. I love it! The great thing about this pattern is...it's not just a make-up bag. Use it as a clutch or even a cute organizer!

The Terrible Twos Aren't So Bad!

I've decided that being a mother is a lot of work. It's not like I haven't known this for the past sixteen years but those of you with teenagers know the terrible twos aren't so terrible when you hit the mean teens! Laughing one minute and crying the next (that would be me, not the teen). I'm sure there are a lot of you out there that can relate.... Lots of praying and therapy!

On a good note...... I'm about ready to release my fall patterns!

Princess Regan

Anyone who has a daughter also has a princess! My Princess is Regan, she inspires me to create and I love doing it. What would we do without them?

Princess Regan is a full color booklet with step by
step directions and pattern pieces to make a dress, skirt or top. The pattern includes sizes 12 months thru 10 years! Fabric shown is Sugar Blossom in stores now. Abbotts right here in Rigby Idaho (If anyone is wondering where the heck rigby Idaho is, It's south east Idaho about an hour and a half south of Yellowstone National Park) has the entire line and The Ribbon Retreat in Shelley has the Pink and Yellow colorway. My little princess is begging me for a bedtime story, so I'm off to tuck her in!

Bear Lake

With a name like Bear Lake you have to wonder if it's home to a crazy about of Bear's. I didn't see one the entire trip so I guess there isn't an infestation. It is such a beautiful place! It was a perfect weekend, not to hot, not to cold and the lake was empty. I enjoyed the entire trip except the sleeping part. Everyone had super comfortable camp trailers and we our high tech Coleman!

Nestled on a nice soft bed of rocks!

Finally about 4 am I crawled into the car and got a couple hours of sleep!

Camping! I would love to do it again just as soon as we get a nice comfortable trailer!

pillow fight for a cause!

I love pillow fights! I love them even more knowing that no one is going to run off crying because they got hurt.
I just met an amazing young lady, her name is Malynn who has gone through some pretty tough stuff. I got an email from a 14 year old a few weeks ago when I was looking for testers to sew my patterns and give me feed back. I was kind of taken back that a 14 year old might be interested in testing one of my patterns. Malynn did end up testing one of my patterns and did a fabulous job. Here is her picture of The Little My Favorite Bag.

Malynn has a goal to donate 100 pillow cases to Primary Childrens Medical Center in SLC, Utah. To help other children feel better about their stay. I can't even imagine as a parent what it might be like for a children to endure what they endure. Lets help Malynn help them smile :-)

Ladies......Let have a pillow fight!

It is my personal goal to send her over 100 pillow cases! If you are local and are interested in sewing a pillow for this cause please email me at amy@katicupcake.com. I would like to get a sewing night or two together and teach those of you who don't know how to make a pillow case. Those of you who do know and want to join us to help others, that would be great. Quilt Market Pictures!

Do you ever neglect the things you need to do, even hate to do, for something you would rather do? Well........I have to admit, I should be cleaning the upstairs bathroom right now.............but I don't want to.........so I'm blogging instead!

I'm not sure what happened at market this year! It was crazy busy. I had six times the help this year, but somehow I didn't make it around to all my favorite booths! So for those of you I missed, I'm so sorry! Her is what I did catch at market!

Here is my booth I think this was by far our best looking both ever! It's nice to have talent in the family. Thanks Dad, you did an awesome job!

This is my Dad and his wonderful wife Diane! They hung out with us for an evening. It was fun to have them see what I do.

I'm sure you all know Sandi Henderson, but what you probably didn't know is how much I adore her. After her first market in SLC about four years ago (has it really been that long?) I scheduled here to visit my quilt shop and do a pattern signing! I have just adored her ever since. She has helped me along my way and has inspired me to want to become better and better at what I do. You are awesome Sandi!

Spring 2011 Patterns

I am so excited to announce our Spring 2011 Collection. We just got back from market (and will be posting pictures soon). It was a lot of work and a lot of fun. Thank you so much to all of you who helped me make this market such a success! (You all know who you are)! I love and adore each one of you.

Let me start by introducing The Everyday Skirt. This is our first "Me Too" series with both adult and children sizes. The cover is Love by Amy Butler. Adult Sizes XS (3-4) through XL
(14-16) and Childrens sizes 12-18 months through 10 years.

The Nap Sack stole the spot light this market and was our number one seller! Comes in sizes S (2-4 Years) M (5-6 Years) L (7-8 Years) My very own sack for me to take a nap! Great for Christmas Presents! Cover shown in my newest line with Henry Glass Sugar Blossom. It ships out the end of June!

The My Favorite Bag has been such a huge hit that we decided to make a "Little My Favorite Bag Pattern! It measures 12" x 12" x 5" and it is darling! The cover is shown in Sugar Blossom

Simply Delicious is just that! I love this bag! It's my new favorite.....the name was already taken so I have to settle for Simply Delicious! This bag comes in two sizes (in the same pattern) Large and not so large. The cover is shown in Sugar Blossom.

Princess Regan was born this last halloween when my princess wanted to be a princess.
The Skirt, Top and Dress are all included in this pattern sizes 12-18 M through 10 years. Cover Fabric show is Sugar Blossom .

Ruth n' Ruby comes in sizes 12-18M through 10 years. I love how this one turned out. The cover fabric shown is Sugar Blossom .

Willow comes in a throw and baby size. Cover fabric is Sugar Blossom.

A twist of Sugar measures 52 1/2" x 52 1/2"

Sugar Blossom ships the end of June and all new patterns will be available June 1. I will be posting them to my WEBSITE in the next couple of days!

Testers Wanted!

I am finally ready to send out my spring 2011 patterns out to be tested! We are very excited about our new patterns. If you live in the US and would like to be a tester, please email me your information and your background in sewing. I am very interested in those that have sewn for a length of time, but also in all of you beginners so it really doesn't matter your skill level! Please also email me your address and telephone number. If you have tested for me and would like to test again, please let me know. My Favorite Bag

I'm leaving in the morning for Washington to visit my grandmother (my moms mother). She has had several strokes within the last couple months and we just aren't sure of her recovery. It has been stressful getting everything ready and done so that I can skip out on a week of work. Confession!< I am bringing my lap top, I guess I just can't live without it. My kids are so excited! Two adults (my sister and I) and seven kids. The best part about this little road trip is we get to play on the beach for the last two days before we head home. My aunt and uncle live in Lincoln City, It's a darling little town and the sand on the beach is white! Out of all the great things in life, there is nothing like the beach even if it is rainy and cold! We are crazy! This is going to be fun. You all have a great week!

The Workout of My Life!

Girls, I got my behind (literally) kicked today at the gym. My good friend Kim (who doesn't have a blog, or I would have linked it right here!) (oh yea and her wonderful husband Tony...) Drug me to this place Maltese CrossFit yesterday to take a look and today I'm dying. Seriously I've never had a work out that took me the entire day to recover! Tomorrow.......well I just can't even think about that right now. It's is going to be a great year! My goals for the year (a six pack and to run a half marathon)! We'll see how that works out!

Sugar Blossom Palette

I am really excited about all the wonderful possibilities for 2011. It is always exciting to start off the new year with a fresh clean canvas and watch how it transforms throughout the year! I started my fresh 2011 canvas with finishing up my next fabric line Sugar Blossom for Henry Glass. We are waiting for our first round of strike offs. For those of you who don't know what a strike off is they are small (sizes may vary) pieces of fabric that the mill prints off for our review. The transition of color from paper to fabric isn't a perfect science it takes time and patience! (I'm always lacking both!) At this point changes are made mostly in color. We might go back and fourth a few times which takes almost 2 months to complete. It's really quite an exciting process. Here is the palette for Sugar Blossom

If all goes well, my fingers and toes are crossed, I will have fabric a month before Market which means alot of work, but better yet it means I will get to have my booth designed out of nothing but Sugar Blossom! Thanks Henry Glass, you guys are awesome! I wish you all a fresh and exciting 2011!

Happy New Year!

I hope you all have had a fabulous and safe New Years Eve Celebration! We went out and wished my baby brother a happy 30th birthday last night, then settled in at home. My 15 year old woke me up at 5 minutes after twelve with a cell phone call to open the door and 5 boys played xbox until around 5 am. Teenagers! I'm still getting acclimated to being a mother of a teenage boy!

I've been pondering my New Year resolutions......it's almost a 100% failure rate for me. So do I pick something that I know I can't do and try it for a few days, or just go on trying to do my best at most things and only achieving greatness in one or two things. I've been trying to quit drinking Dr. Pepper all year! I quit for a week or two and then I'm back to, I'll just have one when I'm stressed syndrome! Well you probably know the drill from there. I'm hooked for a couple weeks and then try again. This year I think I'm going to try and not worry what people think and be happy with who I am. Focus on being a better mother and let the rest fall where it falls. So what about you? What are your New Year resolutions?

Family, Friends and Traditions! Project Parade Day 1

It's feeling like Christmas here in Idaho. We have already hit 22 below zero with the wind chill! Last weekend we headed out with friends and family to cut a Christmas tree. There was a couple extra feet of snow this year so....we got our exercise! It was fun and that's what it's all about. Family, friends and traditions!

This year Henry Glass is excited to present a Project Parade where we will not only share
great projects from 17 Henry Glass Designers, but also share with you a little bit about what we enjoy during the holiday season. It starts today! You can start your parade by visiting the first three designers on the list below!

This is how it works!

Do you have those days when you think to yourself, I feel like crap. I want to feel better. Well....... I have been feeling that way for a while now. Not like terrible, but you know I've got a 35 year old body now and I think my not so good eating habits and lack of exercise the last few years has really got me thinking. Do I want to live to see my grand children! Well the answer is yes. So....I'm trying something new. The last couple of days Dr. Pepper (my favorite drink) is sitting at the store instead of my fridge. I've been starting the day with a fruit shake. Simply a cup of juice and 3-4 frozen fruits, and a scoop of fiber. It tastes great and well, we'll see what happens. So what do you eat that's healthy for lunch. My brilliant sister came up with this one. It was savory! Much better than a hamburger and fries!
I started with a lightly toasted piece of sour dough bread. Smothered it with cream cheese. Layered with spouts, fresh tomatoes from my neighbors garden, avocado slices, cucumber and finished with salt and pepper.

I'm pretty proud of myself to be honest. If anyone knows a good treadmill to buy, I'm in the market.

Meet my IPhone Monster!

I splurged a little and bought my husband and I Iphones a couple of months ago. We both love our phones and so do our Monsters! The photo above one of 1,000 plus photos taken within the last couple of weeks. I've found very interesting videos of nothing, or me stuffing patterns (how exciting)! It's kind of amusing! This is my monster as Captain Jake Sparrow!

Carmel Apples.......Yum Yum

I've always been the kind of girl to buy a sack of square Carmel's for Carmel apples. Well if you've done that before I don't have to go into detail on the end result, right?. This year, my sister (the cook of the family) said to me "when are we doing Carmel apples" as if I didn't have a choice. Well you know I really didn't! So we got together and she shared an incredible recipe with me from "GET OF YOUR BUTT AND BAKE" Seriously those days of unwrapping Carmel's is his history! These Carmel apples rock, I'm really not kidding they are incredibly good and it was easy and I had a great afternoon bonding with my sis and my buddy Melda (sometimes I call her Moda!) You really need to check out this blog, (I'm adding it to my side bar so it will always be at my fingertips) Your kids will love it!

Organize all your hair bows and clips

Do you have hair bows and clips floating all over your house? If you have girls you probably have hair bows galore! I was at one of my favorite shops in Pocatello, Idaho and found a fun old screen. I pulled some fun trims from my stash to match Regans room. First I layed out the trim across my frame, then I cut the trim about 2" longer on each edge to wrap around the screen and stapled it to the back side. Then I stretch a couple pieces the opposite direction just for fun making sure my trim was a couple inches longer on each edge to wrap and staple. I wove in and out of the vertical trims already in place. Added a couple buttons and all my bows. Quick easy and very cute!

I got a box of goodies today which means....it's time to sew! I've been sewing, don't get me wrong but now it's time to kick it into gear and really get going. Market is just around the corner, I can't beleive it's already that time of year again, it seams like we just go back from market! I am excited. I've decided not to go to market this fall. This will be the first time I've not attended market since I started kati cupcake. I just decided that I'm staying home with the kiddos for Halloween. Salt Lake City next spring is going to be a blast, I can't wait. Well I better get sewing!.........

Road Trip

I don't think I've ever been on a road trip with three girls before....this is going to be interesting. Melda and I are heading to Utah to pick up "the" Amanda Herring of the quilted fish. Once we get Amanda it's off to Vegas. We will be hitting the sin city for dinner and a snooze....tomorrow Long Beach California. I hope we make it safe. I could tell my honey was a little nervous for us this morning when he was going over all the details of the trailer I'm hauling. (which I've really never done before). Well it's about time for me to wake up the yeahoo's and hit the road. The give-a-way is still going on until I return from California so make a comment and you are in!

This is my 100th post and I can't believe I've posted that many times. Okay it took me about a year or so...what the hey! I will do better this year! I have so many exciting things rolling around in my head to chat about! The first is a give-a-way.....isn't that what your suppose to do when you hit 100 posts! This is Melda Dean. For those of you who don't know Melda....well she means the world to me! She has worked for me for about 3 1/2 years and has become my best friend, and chearleader (other than my husband of course) She has been my children's (we'll call it nanny) REALLY! She has changed my childrens hinders, cleaned up there messes, lied for them so they wouldn't get in trouble. She has been my mother figure that I have so needed in my life. I am so thankful for her loving support and encouraging words over the years. I couldn't have made it through these last years without her! So I call her my side kick because she says she's to young to be my mother and actually she is right. Today Melda is 50 doesn't she look great! So here's to you Melda Dean! I love you! Thank you for some great years!

One Door Closes Another Will Open!

That's a wrap! The Quilt Shoppe in Idaho Falls, Idaho is closed! Sad face, Happy Face! Just a quick thank you to all of you who have been a fan and have supported me! I really love you.

I am so excited for the future of Kati Cupcake! I feel like I've just been given wings! Really, I've been tied down (slave) what ever you want to call if for far to long! My children and I are going to have a fun filled summer. (Moab Utah is first on the list) The first week of July)! yeah!! My sister just moved down there, her husband is working for Moab tour company! You know what I'm going to be doing. Hiking, Hummer Rides, swimming, playing. I will share when I get home!

My house is in need of some major organization, which I will be sharing fun tips and projects as I find them and create them! I've always wanted to be a good cook. Yes I do know how to cook, but there is a differnce in cooking and cooking! My husband is much better at cooking than I am. The last few years he's been doing 90% of the cooking and 100% of the grocery shopping. I will attempt to take over the cooking and shopping. So I will be sharing some yummy recipes, maybe some this didn't work tips, I'm sure not everything will work out exactly as planned and I will share! I'm so excited. I hope you will hang out with me and share your thoughts as I enjoy my children, life and Kati Cupcake designing!

We went to this fabulous resturant Hell's Kitchen. Steve Palmer(owner) Palmer printing (he is such a great guy, when you have to cry, call Steve, he'll take care of everything!) took us to this great secret nessled in the city if Minneapolis!

The Quilt Shoppes Final Days!

We are drawing nearer and nearer the The Quilt Shoppes final day! It feels kind of weird closing doors that have literally ruled my life for many years! I am excited about the extra time I will have for my children, for designing, for my husband, etc. I find myself sad a little, it must be all the great people I've met over the years! You really have made it good! You know who you are! Thank you for your friendships and support. (We really haven't told many people) shhh it's a secret! That we might be relocating to Washington State for a job transfer (it's still not totally for sure) which means I will have pull up the roots and start over. It's a little scary! I am excited about the adventure we will have finding new fun places to visit, new family traditions etc. But I won't be running into near as many of you there as I would here! Well that's enough sappy stuff. We have lots of great sales going on! Come by and say hello or goodbye! United Air Lines is Trying To Kill Us!

This has been the most terrible travel day I've ever experienced. Melda and I have seriously been at this airport for 12 hours! I've never been this intimate with an airport before in my life! Yikes that is scary! Somehow we got bumped from 4th & 5th on the stand by to 9th and 10th because we weren't a member of their special fly miles club! The flight was delayed. I was huddled in a ball over in the corner, because I ate bad food from the taco joint (in the airport) We were so excited when they called our name. We got on the flight and the captain came on the loud speaker and announced that we needed to re board another plane because the hydraulics were leaking oil. Then........yes it gets better.....or worse I guess it depends if you are on the plane or reading the good story! But the plane filled up with smoke. Melda said " I'm getting off!" I was right behind her until the attendant said everything is under control sit down. (stay calm)! We both said yeah right?! A second later she's yelling everyone calmly get off the plane. Leave your belonging and get of the plane. Calmly....hurry hurry, hurry, get off now, get off now! Put your personal belongings down and get off! So we did (except our phones of course)! Well we are sitting here blogging what time is it? Our flight is scheduled for 12:30. If we don't make it out alive, we want to tell you all we love you and it's been great! x0x0 (sorry Mark it's pertinent!)

AKA The Freak Show is on The Road!

Melda (my side kick) and I are sitting in the Denver airport, just hanging out! Our flight got canceled! (that bites) We have been here four hours (Melda says we've been here longer but we haven't) anyway we are hoping to get on a return flight to Idaho Falls tonight on stand by tickets (number 4 and 5) at 9:20 p.m. otherwise the airport terminal will be home sweet home until tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. I've seriously never had this happen before. The wind is blowing 30 mph with 50 mph gusts. Our flight here was pretty bumpy! Melda and I are so silly when we travel. I'm pretty sure if either of our husbands flew with us together they would not claim us! We are constantly stumbling over our suite cases and running into each other aka (The Freak Show) It begins the moment we leave the house and doesn't end until we get home. I'm not quite sure how that works, but it does. Okay so I have to apologize for the lack of updating during market! I'm so sorry. I left my USB cord at home and couldn't down load any pictures and honestly what is the use without pictures! I found a USB cord at a shop here at the airport and if all goes well I will have a great slide show of pictures (okay just a minute Melda is talking I'll be right back.........................................I'm back, Melda had to tell me a story about a bird crapping in her face. There is a bird flying around the airport and Melda says "The only way our day is going to get any better is if that bird poops in our heads" I said that's going to make our day better? So she has to tell me this silly story about her and her sister way back when they were juniors in high school. They went down on the beach with a couple boys. They fried up some chicken earlier for lunch but when they got down to the beach and started to eat the fried chicken it wasn't cooked all the way through so they fed it to the seagulls. Well after all the fried chicken was gone the seagulls wouldn't leave and kept circling looking for food. Melda was laying on her stomach in the sun with her back to her young friend and this seagull did his thing all over the side of her face (laughing hysterically) she says she tried to wipe it off before he could see but he turned and said what is that white crap all over your face (it looks like bird crap) LOL! Okay we are so bored. I will try and send you some fabulous market photos if I can get my photos down loaded!

So I'm just about ready to head out the door to catch my plane to Minneapolis Minnesota! Scary......I hate to fly. Wow! I have had so many emails. Thank you so much for your overflowing offers of wanting to help me, especially during this time of insanity! Really and truly that is what it is! It gets pretty crazy, I'm getting gray hair!! (don't tell anyone) and it's not from my kids they are all angels! (yeah right)! They are pretty cute and most of the time pretty good. We just got a dog (little girl)! She is a chorky (Chiwawa, Yorkie) weighs 2.3 pounds and is so darling. She is anything but and angel. She is ripping my house a part. I will post some pictures later! I promise.

So back to you! I may need a couple more, so you might here from me, but I just wanted to say a big thank you!

I almost forgot my user name and password to get into blogger! Yikes. I know it's been a while. Life is really busy right now with market just around the corner. It's pretty pathetic when I have to read blogs just to catch up with what is going on with all my designer buddies! I feel like a terrible friend! We are all busy trying to get new and exciting things ready for market and you! It is such a fun, yet crazy time!

I will be at Village Dry Goods in Brigham city Utah! Celebrating a birthday party! I will be there May 8th from 2 p.m. until everyone is gone....may 3 p.m. just kidding. I hope to see you there! I will be bringing a huge trunk show and sneak peak of what's new, for market! (not everything, just a few pieces!)

So...I've been a stranger. I've really been working on some great projects you will all get to see very soon. My next fabric line Genevieve will be shown to quilt shop owners around the world in May. Yikes, I always get nervous to show it to the real world. People are going to love it or hate it, that is reality, but scary!

Julia of Serendipity is our winner - after checking out your blog and found you have 10 children, I love you. My sister has 10 children and I know it isn't an easy task..I have 3 children and it isn't an easy task. I tell my sister all the time. I have been a terrible host! I'm so sorry, LIFE has taken me by the pants and it's taken me a while to get grounded, okay I'm not grounded, I've decided I may never be. I fly by the seat of my pants, I'm disorganized and things are NEVER going to be the way I want them to be. So like Joe says (my buddy Meldas husband) suck it up and move on!

I will try and be better. I've been working my little tail off. We got the shop moved and are settling in. Marabella will be in soon! I loooooooooooooooooove it! It has been so exciting sewing with my own fabric, I can't even tell you. Here is what's just about off the press.

My Favorite Bag. It's huge! It measures well, let me go measure it. Be right back..................................... okay it measures 15 1/2" tall x 16" wide and 5" deep. It's a great everything bag. I have a diaper wipes case that I'm debating adding to the pattern, so let me know what you think. The person that gives me the very best answer will be the first to have one of My Favorite Bag Patterns.

The Quilt Shoppe Moving Sale!

As crazy as it may sound, it is true we are moving! We will be open November 3rd at the 17th street location. The Quilt Shoppe's last day at it's current location will be Halloween and we will be up and running at the 17th street location Tuesday November 3rd. I am so excited to be showing this at Market! It will be available at a quilt shop near you in February!

Most of you may know that I lost my beloved mother several years ago of thyroid cancer. She was and always will be an inspiration in my life. While I was drawing Marabella, my sister gave me a box of my mother old paintings and doodlings. I was so excited. I took one of her drawings and added a little twist! Can you guess which one was my mothers? Those of you who already know (close friends and family) don't guess!

I love making rosettes. My mother made these all the time while I was growing up. She used them for everything! I remember thinking my mother new everything, I was certain she was the best! When we grow up we all realize the truth about our mothers, well about all of us. I hope my daughter thinks I'm the best even it it's just for a little while!

A Little Tease!

Sunday Afternoon Making Cookies!

There is nothing better than a Sunday afternoon in the kitchen with someone you love
making cookies. It doesn't happen very often.

For those of you who know me well. I don't cook a lot. My husband is a much better cook than me. He bought the bosh this Christmas (for me, ha ha) I think he's telling
me something!

This is my mothers recipe. These were my favorite cookies growing up.

Oatmeal Scotchies
(we changed the recipe just a bit, used chocolate chips instead of
butterscotch chips, no nuts, or raisins) just the way I like them.

This recipe is huge, it makes a lot of cookies (caution, don't cut it down, it never turns out the same) give them away to a neighbor or relative!

I hope you can spend an afternoon with someone you love making something very delicious!

2 Cups butter
4 Cups Brown Sugar
4 Eggs
4 Teaspoons Vanilla
3 Cups Four
1/2 Cup Wheat Flour
1 Cup Wheat Germ
2 Teaspoons baking soda
2 Teaspoons Salt
4 Cups coconut
4 Cups Oats
2 Cups Nuts (optional)
or 2 Cups butterscotch chips or raisins (we use real chocolate chips)

A Quick Hello......

Life is getting busy. Quilt market is in about 6 weeks give or take a couple of days. Okay so I'm in denial this week is just about over leaving me realistically 5 weeks. Yikes! Or maybe I don't have a calendar in front of me. Anyway. I've got ten minutes before I have to swing over to the local Chinese joint and pick up dinner! My life is getting very interesting....maybe crazy is a better word. Our photo shoot for pattern fronts is in the morning.....I'll have to hit target tonight for a couple quick things, I'm sure I've forgotten. I will be in touch I promise! Just wanted to say hello. A Little Vacation....Back to work.

We went on our yearly vacation to McCall. For those of you who have never been. It's a must! We love it. We go every year with my sister. We sit on the beach...get in the boat, ski, wake board.....sit on the beach.....sit on the beach some more.....this year I got in the boat, but not in the water. yah I know what a wimp. There is always next year!

I always have to do a little work while on vacation. I can't give it all up. So we took the girls on an outing! I worked on my photography skills which apparently need alot of work! It was LOTS OF FUN.

Technical Difficulties

I have has so many people come into my shop asking if I teach classes. The answer unfortunately is no. I just don't have enough time or enough room in the shop. So I've decided, if I can figure it out lol I will post video classes on my blog. The first is How to achieve a true quarter inch seam. I truly believe there are 3 fundamentals of quilting. If you can master these three fundamentals you will achieve success!

1. Cutting accurately
2. True Quarter Inch Seam
3. Pressing not ironing

Cover your Camera Strap!

I took a photography class last week from Angie Hansen. It was a fantastic class. I really learned alot. I was pretty excited about learning so much about my camera and photography.....when I get excited I usually sew. So the covered camera strap (sure to have been made before) was born...(in my house anyway).

Start by measuring the bulky part of your camera strap. Mine measured about 2" wide x 19 1/2" long

Times the width by 4 and add 1" to the length. New measurement: 6" wide x 20 1/2" long
Use this formula for any size strap.

I decided to use 2 1/2" strips, great for using up jelly roll scraps. My camera needed 10 - 2 1/2" x 6" strips. If for instance your camera strap was 1 1/2" longer than mine, just add one extra strip and cut off equal amounts from the first and last strip to make it the right size.

Lay out your strips in the order you want them as shown below .

Sew each strip together using 1/4" seam allowance. Sewing along the 6" side. Press between each seam.

Next cut a piece of fusible fleece the size of your pieced strip. If your camera strap is the same size as mine, is should measure 6" x 20 1/2". Press the fusible fleece strip to the wrong side.

Top stitch on each side of the seams as shown.

Press in half

Open

Bring each raw edge onto the pressed mark in the center and press as shown.

Repeat so that both raw edges are pressed into the middle. Each raw edge should lay right up to the middle pressed mark.

Open back up and fold each short edge 1/2" in and press.

Lay the camera strap along the middle fold. Fold each edge as originally pressed.

Pin in place.

Top stitch around entire camera strap

You are done...Put your strap back on your camer and enjoy your new chic camera strap.
